Sue recently identified a young staff member who was in distress. By employing principles of relationship-based care and creating a safe space for this member. Sue recognized warning signs of possible suicide ideation in this young employee. Through her compassionate approach, Sue was able to build rapport to the extent that this staff member admitted to actively having a plan to commit suicide. In partnering with this staff member, Sue was able to help them access care immediately through the emergency department. This is a true testament to Sue’s skills in fostering relationships with staff members, her unwavering compassion for others, and her astute clinical expertise. Thank you Sue for acting quickly, professionally, and compassionately to save this young staff member from an uncertain fate where others were unable to recognize her veiled distress. Kudos, you are – and always will be – a true hero in my book.
