Genie took her spare time and fabric, to make scrub caps for hundreds (not an exaggeration) of nurses within the Inova system. She delivered boxes of caps to IFH and to other sites including our own.
Genie is phenomenal if I were to use just one word. She is our little bundle of energy, a go-getter, and a problem solver. She is committed to her patients every day and wholeheartedly. She is committed to her team as well, always working on projects and spontaneous morale-boosting activities. She believes strongly in the team approach and that every member of the team is an integral part of our success, from registration to radiology, to our supply chain partner and our EVS staff, and lets them know how valuable they are.
During Covid’s peak, and as treatments became available, Lorton was tasked with getting an antibody infusion center up and running quickly to help as many at-risk patients as possible receive this groundbreaking treatment. Genie took a lead role in developing a flow process and designed a resource book for the many float staff that was coming to work in the center.
She is the type of nurse whom we wish we could clone. She is always willing to help with any project to improve the quality of our care, educate our techs and our patients and help a co-worker with a critical patient and collaborate with our physicians with her insight. Genie is our little gem here at Lorton.
Genie’s expert clinical skills and exceptionally compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model. This nurse consistently exhibits the Six Cultural Beliefs at Inova. These attributes were recently evidenced by her ability to help develop and onboard more than 15 nurses from other departments who were assigned to our Covid infusion clinic when the positions that they held in other areas of Inova were being downsized. To name only a few of the ways that she was instrumental in helping our community, Genie assisted with schedule building, workflow, referral in the primary care offices for the infusion, she in on days off and worked tirelessly alongside me every day for weeks to get the patients this life-saving medication.

Genie goes the extra mile to help others who need to change their schedule for work-life balance. She has a way of making people feel respected, it is not something that you can put your finger on and identify, you just feel like she cares.
Genie has an outstanding relationship with the physicians and the staff in other departments. She is a true DAISY Nurse as she has shown her Inova spirit over and over again this past year despite her own health challenges. I see her as a future Inova leader and encourage her learning and growth whenever possible
