Even though the department was busy, it didn't stop Mickie from taking the time out to make her patient feel special on a very important day for her.
Mickie was the Primary Nurse for a 7-year-old who had hurt her arm the previous night at the trampoline park. Dad brought her into the Davenport West ED the next morning to get her arm checked out and unfortunately she had a complex fracture needing surgical intervention. Her patient was devastated because this was the day of her birthday party, and they would have to cancel. Mickie had the great idea to celebrate her birthday in the ER. She and other nurses rallied to purchase her a couple unicorn gifts (unicorns were her favorite) and sang happy birthday prior to being transported to East for surgery. Even though the department was busy, it didn't stop Mickie from taking the time out to make her patient feel special on a very important day for her. Mickie always gives compassionate care to her patients, young or old. She consistently goes above and beyond for the department and is a true team player. We are so lucky to have her working for our organization.
