During the night, Dennis gave her oxygen, sat at the bedside, and held her hand. She told us that, “he acted like I was his only patient that night”.
Dennis Sloan displayed compassionate care, exemplary service and continue commitment to excellent. I am a teammate at Atrium Health, but I am writing this as a family member of a patient.
My mother was a patient at Atrium Health Pineville in July. After a long, frustrating stay in the ED, she was admitted with diagnoses of A fib and Heart Failure. At the age of 82, she has rarely been hospitalized and definitely not with this kind of problem. She was experiencing episodes of dyspnea, especially at night, which also caused her to have panic attacks. The first night she was admitted, Dennis was her nurse. He was caring and kind and took wonderful care. But the action that stands out to our family is that when she had her “breathing attack” during the night, he gave her oxygen, sat at the bedside, and held her hand. She told us that, “he acted like I was his only patient that night”. And that is how patients should feel when in a crisis. I can never thank Dennis enough for not only providing excellent nursing care but for showing such compassion and empathy in such a great time of need.
Note: This is Dennis’ 2nd DAISY Award!
