Peyton is one of the most selfless nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She goes above and beyond for all of her patients no matter what. Recently she cared for a young woman who is a refugee from Afghanistan. This young woman was separated from her entire family due to the Taliban and she was having a hard time adjusting to her new life in the United States. The patient did not open up to anyone else except for Peyton. She shared with her the struggles she was facing.

Although Peyton had a heavy workload, she took the time to use the interpreter services and comfort the young woman. She learned that her residential facility took away her hijab and was not allowing her to practice Islam. Peyton took the time to reach out to the chaplain services where she was able to get the patient a hijab, the Quran, and a prayer mat so that she could continue to practice her faith while admitted to the hospital.

Peyton also found the young woman a Mediterranean restaurant near the hospital and ordered her food. Prior to her admission, the patient had not eaten in days because her residential facility did not provide her with food from her culture. Peyton was able to communicate the patient’s needs to her medical team. If Peyton did not take the time to sit down with this patient I am unsure how she would have continued to cope in the hospital. Peyton has a knack for connecting with all of the families that she cares for and she is always an advocate for her patients. She goes above and beyond the call of duty for each and every patient she cares for.
