Marissa always maintained a calm demeanor, always stressed the positive side of our baby’s long-term development, and emotionally comforted us when needed.
Marissa was a primary nurse for our daughter, M, who had an extended stay in the NICU after being born at 29 weeks and only two pounds and ten ounces. Marissa was a critical factor in our daughter’s successful development after the past two months plus. Marissa consistently brought a positive attitude and showed up with a smile every day we saw her.

It quickly became clear to us that she not only was extremely knowledgeable and professional but also would be compassionate and caring to our daughter and us. Her professionalism was very evident early on as we regularly observed many other nurses on the floor approach Marissa with their questions to get her opinion or insight. She is clearly thought of as a leader on the floor and someone others go to for help.

The NICU can be a stressful environment - the nurses not only need to make sure they are caring for sick babies, but are also doing so under the eye of parents who come from all different types of backgrounds and personalities. Marissa always maintained a calm demeanor, always stressed the positive side of our baby’s long-term development, and emotionally comforted us when needed. She has an amazing ability to be emotionally present and comforting, while also being able to run out when another baby’s monitors sound an alarm. She is always on her game from a professional standpoint, but at the same time emotionally present in a loving manner for both the baby and the parents. Her ability to do both at the same time is what makes her stand out.

As a Registered Nurse myself, I can’t help but pay attention to how other RNs work. I can confidently say Marissa Hayes is the best Registered Nurse I have ever gotten to know in the past 15 years. She was born to be a NICU nurse and spread her love, knowledge, compassion, and comfort to parents and sick babies during such a scary time and we are forever grateful for her.
