Luann, you were a constant advocate for him as a patient and for us as a family.
Luann provided excellent care and compassion to my family when my brother-in-law was here as a patient on 4900. He was here with a nosebleed following a total joint surgery. Not something that seems like a big ordeal, right? He needed suction and constant pressure to his nose from the time it started bleeding. He had gone to IR for an embolization to try and stop the bleeding but it did not work. The night shift staff took excellent care of him and my sister, keeping them still and calm to prevent any further bleeding. There were multiple staff members in his room all night. Luann started the day with him and there was further bleeding. She was also orientating a new staff member and was explaining everything in detail to the new RN and us as a family. Behind the scenes, she was making phone calls to IR, ENT, the hospitalist, and rapid response. Everyone came to the bedside, and he was taken to emergent surgery on a Saturday morning. She was so calm and gracious.

As a family of nurses, I can't explain how much your calmness calmed us. You were a constant advocate for him as a patient and for us as a family. He has been in my life since I was three years old and it was so scary to see him so scared, but I knew he was in good hands and could breathe a bit easier. I just can't find the words to thank the entire staff of 4900. I know he had 2-3 nurses in his room at all times, from the time he came on the unit for night shift until he left for surgery on Saturday. Before everyone heads in different ways with the unit reconfigurations, I just wanted to take time to acknowledge the staff for the amazing care they provide every day. I do not have the words to adequately express my gratitude.
