I wanted to tell you all about a patient we had overnight last night/this morning and Whitney going above and beyond to show compassion. Long story short, this gentleman was not doing well through the night and we were going to have to intubate, but we called family and he was made a DNR/I while they were working on driving the 2 hours to Greenville. Whitney made sure he was comforted throughout the night and stayed by his bedside on her own time (after shift change) so he had a familiar face around and wouldn’t die alone or scared if things progressed more quickly than his family could get there. I know if it were my family member in that bed, I would be a little more at ease knowing that someone who truly cared was at their bedside comforting them and letting them know their family was on the way and that they weren’t alone. I think right now people can be burnt out and lose sight of whom they are caring for and forget why we are in the field we are. But examples like Whitney tonight really bring it back for me. She wasn’t making a big show of it and I don’t think she will tell people about it, but I wanted someone to know. Thank you all!
