Allie was kind enough to print bracelets with Nana's name and date.
My grandmother-in-law was sent to the hospital ER. This was not her care of plan. Her Nurse Practioner felt she was not safe at home. The nurse was at the home to give a referral for Hospice. Being in NH we rushed to the ER. I was allowed to talk to her. The doctor was confused as well. They advised me to get hospice on board. She was going to be admitted. They were going to do a few tests.
Thursday I spoke to Allie Murray who would be Nana's Nurse. Nana told me how angry she was to be in the hospital. I conveyed to Allie that I was working on it and she may have to go to rehab for a minute. I asked Allie to let her know I love her and am diligently working on hospice. The case manager had called and she informed me they would take care of the hospice referral and keep her in Hospital until hospice was in place.
At home, she was with a VNA service that also did hospice. I got the phone call from the house doctor that Nana was not doing well. Even though she was 92 and under medical VNA help, it was a bit of a shock. The doctor wanted to know what we wanted. I conveyed my wishes to not use machines and just keep nana comfortable. I called family and we headed to Beverly Hospital.
Doctor C called again and said she checked on Nana and she was even worse. Unforunately, Dr. C called me while in route. Nana had passed. I was upset because I did not want her to be alone while she passed. I entered the Hospital to gather her belongings. Allie who had worked all day was there to greet me. She told me how peaceful Nana was when she passed. No meds were even needed to keep her comfortable. I told her I was going to have my daughters go see her but after seeing her I decided it was not a good idea.
Allie was kind enough to print bracelets with Nana's name and date. Allie was kind, compassionate, and made a bad situation easier to go through. Knowing that Allie was able to be there for Nana meant the world to our family. Even though Nana’s wish was to pass at home, Allie was there for her and our family. Nana only spent 25 hours at the hospital before she passed. No machines and no medication. Just peacefully. I wanted to call to let everyone know how great Allie was. You always hear of people calling and complaining, but I wanted to call and let them know how great she was.
