Ms. Kubalova took on additional tasks enthusiastically to assist veterans and families to utilize video technology to maintain connectedness.
Ms. Kubalova works in the Community Living Center, CLC-A, Hospice and Palliative Care Unit, now 5A. On any given day, she can be found providing wound care assessments and treatments, working behind a medication cart, or serving anywhere else her skills are needed. Under contingency crisis planning care, our needs changed significantly when CLCA became Unit A, and hospice care moved to 5A. Ms. Kubalova took on additional tasks enthusiastically to assist veterans and families to utilize video technology to maintain connectedness and to assist families to bear witness with the veteran at end of life.

Ms. Kubalova is a DAISY Nurse for her outstanding work facilitating iPad video technology for face-to-face visits for veterans and their families during this pandemic and severe visitor restrictions. She embraced this role, received training, and trained others on how to use it so that visits may occur on any shift. She oversees the schedule, troubleshoots double or overlapping video bookings, identifies missing information, and assures that full communication of tasks are shared so that planned visits go smoothly and are not dropped. She has taken ownership of these efforts during this time of social and physical distancing because it has been important that veterans and families maximize the full benefits of virtual visits when they are unable to visit in person. This has quickly become a best practice. She is a team member who demonstrates initiative and responsibility during a time of significant rapid change.
