Ewa is an extraordinary nurse. She made a very personal connection with a patient over 10 years ago when she was the charge nurse on 5 East.

J. was admitted for hyperemesis in pregnancy. J. had several admissions during this twin pregnancy requiring TPN. Ewa went out of her way to keep J’s spirits up and convince her that everything would be all right. J. was scared and almost certain that she was going to miscarry. Whenever Ewa was working, she would do what she could to be assigned to care for J. She built a very special bond with her patient. J. developed a strong sense of trust and appreciation for Ewa’s personalized care. Ewa’s positive energy inspired J. to stay strong and fight for her babies.

One day, J’s husband called Ewa to inform her that his wife had delivered healthy premature girls by emergency c-section. J. spent many months in the hospital post-delivery as she had severe cardiac complications and was on a waiting list for a heart transplant. Ewa kept in touch with this patient the entire time she was hospitalized post-delivery.

Fortunately, after 2 years J.’s cardiac status improved without needing a heart transplant. Many years passed when Ewa met this patient again in 2021 at Resurrection, Same-Day Surgery. This time J. was admitted for a minor procedure. Both Ewa and J. were so happy to reconnect. The patient asked Ewa for her contact information, which she happily shared. Ewa received a text from J. She would need major surgery soon. J. was extremely nervous. She asked Ewa if she could be available to be her nurse. J. shared, “It would put me at ease to know you would be my nurse.” Ewa rearranged her schedule, canceled her dental appointment, and planned to be there for J. Ewa is a special nurse. She made a deep and lasting positive impression on her patient that has lasted for years!
