When Ms. Nagakani Thankavelu first joined our hospital, it became obvious that she took her staff nurse position very seriously and was genuinely interested in the field.
Nagakani is a very talented, dedicated, and hardworking staff nurse in AICU (A3) that I have had the pleasure of working with her for the past three years. She demonstrated herself to be an extremely bright and capable individual with genuine compassion and care for patients.
When Ms. Nagakani Thankavelu first joined our hospital, it became obvious that she took her staff nurse position very seriously and was genuinely interested in the field. She was a quick learner for training during orientation time. The patient, as well as family, commented on her excellent bedside manner, and her highly professional work style. 8 months before we had an admission from OR, post-liver transplant with severe bleeding from the surgical site. The patient was very critical and required blood products more than 20 bags.
The multidisciplinary team arrived and advised her to do following orders. We realized that that patient was the most critical patient in ICU and never had been handled before. She was actively engaged with the patient throughout the whole shift. She couldn’t sit even a few seconds. The whole shift, she did a great job and finished all required transfusions, and carried out doctors' orders before the next shift. She saved the patient's life from the present critical condition.
When the transplant team arrived, they were very happy and appreciated her for their outstanding performance. The family of that patient was very thankful to Ms.Nagakani. Her greatest asset is her responsible attitude along with her ability to work under pressure in case of emergencies.
Another example of her dedication is, presently she is taking care of one of the AICU patient. The family itself requested Nagakani every day. When she is on duty, she will be assigned to that same patient for 63 days as per family request. The family is very impressed and very happy about her work. She is a role model for patient-centered care by involving the patient and family as part of the health care team.
Another example is our staff needed help, she was always ready to help until the problem was resolved. She never complains about her allocation. She is able to handle patients even when they are agitated. Our ICU team and doctors were also so impressed with her work. I believe that she is the best excellent nurse in ICU. She is a true team player that also has a strong interest in helping patients manage the disease. I am confident that she is an asset to the hospital she works with.
