Lisa shows how compassion and empathy are vital and can quickly build a strong relationship with a patient in a matter of minutes.
Lisa is an incredibly caring and empathetic nurse, who always gives her patients understanding and reassurance when they arrive in interventional radiology. Lisa goes above and beyond to make every patient feel welcome, reassured, comfortable, and at ease. She senses when they are anxious and need a little bit more attention and focus. When in the theatre with each patient, Lisa reassures them and comforts them through their procedure. She always checks up on them afterward in the recovery area before she starts her next case in theatre. Nothing is too much trouble for her. Lisa demonstrates an amazing work ethic and is an inspiration to all others who work with her. She shows how compassion and empathy are vital and can quickly build a strong relationship with a patient in a matter of minutes. This is a skill that does not come easily to everyone, but Lisa’s friendly and welcoming ways always relax and reassure every patient.

Recently, I witnessed a patient state that they would like to take Lisa home with them, as she was so caring and attentive. When a junior member of staff was struggling to communicate with a patient who could not speak, Lisa was the first member of staff they approached to ask for her help.

Lisa is equally as helpful and kind to work alongside. She is always happy and hard-working and never complains. She keeps everybody’s spirits high, always has a kind word to speak and a friendly hello to give to everyone who comes to the department. Lisa is also valued by the student nurses who come to IR for a placement. A student recently commented: “Lisa is another beautiful person on your team, she is always smiling, the way she talks with her patients is amazing. I love the way she talks to her colleagues and with her patients. She is so empathetic/ passionate nurse”.

As her ward Sister, I am so proud of the way she interacts with patients and staff. She has such a lovely manner and genuine empathy for every patient. I really feel that her dedication and hard work should be recognised at NUH.
