Maria has a true altruistic approach to all she does. Nothing is too much trouble.
Maria is a very special lady who always put others before herself, both in and out of work. The Coronavirus Pandemic is having a massive impact on us all. The Tissue Viability team is relatively small and is responsible for providing specialist practical care and advice for patients, relatives, carers and staff across the whole Trust. Members of the Team and their family members have been personally affected by the Coronavirus which left the service with limited capacity to deliver. There was and continues to be additional demand for the Tissue Viability Nurses to support the much-needed training for nurses and healthcare assistants returning to the clinical front line in response to Covid-19.

All the Team deserves recognition for their flexibility and dedication but Maria stands out from the rest. Maria has a true altruistic approach to all she does. Nothing is too much trouble. She is in early, often leaves late, and constantly checks on her colleagues whilst consistently reviewing the rota to ensure there is enough staff at each hospital site each day. Quite often, Maria will fill any gaps herself.

I have recently had the privilege of supporting Maria clinically and her bedside manner was so warm, compassionate, efficient, and professional. Patients were at ease in her care and staff clearly respected her input and knowledge.

Last year, Maria was unable to apply for a higher band role as she did not have the Academic qualifications now expected. Maria was actually doing the role on secondment at the time and was clearly able to deliver. She has years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Despite the huge disappointment, her focus remains very patient / person-centered and she continues to give 150%.
