Even though my dad was in a paralyzed state and not responsive, Ashley would always talk to him when she came in the room.
My dad was on the CTICU floor placed on a ventilator due to complications related to covid. Ashley was my dad’s nurse during the day. My dad wasn’t responding with the help of the ventilator. Dad had developed a fever and his organs were starting to fail. There were many doctors coming in and asking difficult questions. During these times, Ashley would sit with us and made sure we understood what they were saying and answering any questions we may have had. Even though my dad was in a paralyzed state and not responsive, she would always talk to him when she came in the room. I appreciated that because it showed she cared. Ashley would talk to us about random things and show us pictures of her dogs which she loves bunches. It was a great distraction and lightened some dark stressful moments. Ashley was very upfront about my dad’s condition and let us know when the time was coming near. Some may not like that, but I respect it because it allowed time to make sure all our love and words were spoken. My mother passed 4 years earlier in a nursing home and they never called me to say she was worsening, and I was unable to say my final goodbyes and that still haunts me! I was very thankful that Ashley was one of my dad’s nurses and for being there for our family during this difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
