Lynn is the most visionary nursing leader I have ever worked for.
We, the clinical staff at Edward Hospital, would like to recognize Lynn Cochran, CNO for her caring behavior, inspiration, and compassion toward others.
***
Anyone who has spent any amount of time around Lynn recognizes the tremendous passion she has for nursing and nursing care. She never stops thinking about how she can impact and inspire this broad team to provide for them the safest and most rewarding place to work. Lynn is a role model for her work ethic, critical thinking skills, communication skills, and physician partnering. I’m sure that many up-and-coming nurse leaders aspire to achieve these attributes.
***
The best words to describe Lynn are brilliant, dedicated, passionate, supportive, and inspirational. I live in awe of Lynn and her numerous talents. She has taught me so much about leadership and words cannot describe how she has helped me to grow.
***
I believe that Lynn is the most visionary nursing leader I have ever worked for. While others may look a step ahead, Lynn looks at the big picture and creates an environment that supports patient and staff safety and nursing innovation. She looks at extremely challenging issues such as capacity, throughput, med reconciliation, employee engagement, etc., and makes enhancements that improve that safety and quality of care. She takes on the impossible and makes it possible. She does all this with great humility and respect for others. She brings teams together and uses people’s strengths to explore all potential options before determining the best course of action.
Lynn is a tremendous leader who leads by example and is the most complete boss I have ever worked for.
***
When I think of Lynn, I think of an individual who is genuine in nature, humble, holds a strong moral purpose, and is really, really, really smart! In the worst of times that healthcare has seen in our generation, Lynn brought forth every quality that defines leadership and inspired all of us to move forward and conquer this difficult battle. Lynn set forth a standard and a bar that may be difficult for the rest of us to reach, but at the same time, she taught us how to see the strength within ourselves in order to reach that bar and helped us on our paths to get there. For that, I am eternally grateful!

I would describe Lynn as dedicated and genuine. In the midst of COVID-19, Lynn has stepped up to the plate to hear and listen to all healthcare professionals of Edward Hospital. She takes the information that she obtains from them and works on developing a plan of action. If Lynn hears a concern, one can be assured that she will make an effort to improve that situation. In doing this, the healthcare team can rely on her with their concerns and know that they are heard. In this ever-changing world, being heard is crucial for employee engagement.
Many studies on employee engagement show a link to improved patient outcomes. Lynn understands this link and flourishes with it to benefit our patient population. I have never experienced a person in leadership who is so genuine in her follow-through in distributing information. With the great amount of uncertainty that lies with this pandemic, Lynn chooses to be open and honest regarding her own concern in a positive manner that reflects and generates motivation. When Lynn speaks on a topic, she speaks directly and outlines the situation from the problem, to barriers, to possible resolutions. I am grateful to be in an institution with someone like Lynn in leadership. She is an excellent role model and is the epitome of excellence for nursing leadership.
