Donna consistently is a positive representative of the nursing program and college in campus activities and in her clinical setting at Froedtert Hospital.
Donna is an extraordinary dedicated nursing faculty of the Nursing Program at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC). She is a wonderful role model for the students and a great mentor for faculty! Donna exemplifies tremendous leadership qualities while working with her team as a course lead when teaching Mental Health Community course and being a Chairperson for the Learning and Resource Technology Committee. While in the clinical setting Donna challenges her students by asking them questions about what they learned in the classroom and encourages them to bring forward concepts while caring for their patients in the clinical setting.
When at Froedtert Hospital she often seeks out new patient experiences for her students and continues to work towards improving their skills and patient interactions. Donna believes in students having critical life skills and requires them to participate in critical thinking and problem-solving. She does this by having the student explain the problem and based on the scenario she will have them talk through the problem and have the student develop a plan instead of offering the answers. She truly cares about her students and patients!
If a student requires additional work after incorrectly performing a skill in the clinical setting Donna is known for meeting the student back on campus to reteach the skill and have the student demonstrate it once again while in the skills lab at WCTC. Donna is very passionate about her work and students continue to flourish while learning beside her. Donna believes in lifelong learning for herself and others and she has collaborated with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to learn more from the experts about mental illness and to improve and keep current while teaching in the classroom. She also encourages her students to continue to move forward to achieve their BSN. Donna has also been a student herself and has taken a psychology course at WCTC to learn what her students learn prior to coming into her course.
Donna consistently is a positive representative of the nursing program and college in campus activities and in her clinical setting at Froedtert Hospital. She sets high standards for her students and shows great compassion and commitment in helping people meet those standards. Through holding her students accountable for their performance Donna continues to strive to enhance the student’s development and assists them in meeting the required student learning outcomes. She has volunteered several times with a group of students to perform a urinalysis for patients at a Kidney Foundation event in Waukesha WI.
Although Donna continuously requires all of her students to demonstrate safe patient care students often thank her and describe how much they have learned from her in those moments. She is an exceptional nursing faculty who is helping to develop our future nurses! Our students and college are very blessed to have Donna as a nursing faculty and our healthcare community is better for having students that have been taught by her.
