The patient cried, not because of his prognosis, but because Le felt that she was such a great nurse to him.
Le was the primary nurse for W, for two nights in a row. The patient received bad news on his last night. The oncologist asked if it was okay for his wife to bring by books and things to keep him entertained. The patient stated that his wife is in Yuma, AZ. Le was off the next night but went to the store after work to buy several things such as a sketch pad, a “listology” book, pencils, Christmas décor, a toy truck (as he was a mechanic prior to hospitalization), and a mailbox. She came in on her day off to give the patient a little joy after receiving some bad news. The patient cried, not because of his prognosis, but because he felt that she was such a great nurse to him.

Le Chau provides excellent care to all her patients. For example, a patient kept handing me $20 to give Le as a tip because he stated he never received amazing care before.  We kept trying to explain to the patient that we cannot accept money or gifts from patients, but that patient would try to sneak in cash into Le’s scrub top.

Le is very thoughtful and compassionate. She is this way with all her patients and the people she works with. This is just an example that explains how amazing Le Chau is. She does this because her heart is pure, and because of her she makes working alongside her so enjoyable. Le Chau exemplifies everything good about UCSD, she is the kind of nurse we all aspire to be, and we are all so lucky to have her in our unit. Her smile brings the light, and her energy is so calming even in the most stressful situations. If I was ever a patient or even had a family member admitted, I would request Le Chau because I know I would be in the best hands.
