Jennifer Lawrence is the unit Shared Governance co-chair, heads the staff snack shack and manages the “Shoes for Crews” program for our team.
These two nurses are exemplary and dedicate themselves to ensuring that nurses on the 6 BMT unit feel cared for on a regular basis. Andrea is the WBC (Workplace Bliss Committee) co-chair and for Nurses’ Week, 2021 had created an extensive daily plan to ensure that all 6 BMT staff (RNs, LVNs, and CCPs) were celebrated. Jennifer Lawrence is the unit Shared Governance co-chair, heads the staff snack shack and manages the “Shoes for Crews” program for our team. On top of these nurses’ clinical requirements (and going above and beyond for their patients), they consistently go above and beyond for their team, dedicating their personal time to make sure everyone feels appreciated and creating a culture of family and community among our team on 6BMT.
On Nurses’ week 2020, that dedication to creating a culture of community extended not to just our team’s nurses, but those working at the Scripps BMT unit during the cyber security attack on their systems. Both Andrea and Jennifer spearheaded a unit donation fund for Scripps nurses, then purchased (a lot and quite a variety) of burritos, packaged them with kind messages, and delivered them to the nurses working at Scripps! The messages on the burritos were: “Hey Scripps. Our thoughts are with you…Happy Nurses Week. From UCSD 6 BMT.” It was an incredible gesture of kindness and supporting our neighbors. The Scripps nurses were shocked when they received the delivery and couldn’t believe UCSD was thinking of them.
This is a true testimony of these two nurses’ commitment to caring and thinking of others before themselves. I am proud to be on a team with nurses whose sincerity in caring for others is evident in all that they do.
