The way Waeel handled the patient he was not only a professional nurse, but he also acts as a son for the patient.
An elderly patient was referred from one of the peripheral hospitals as a suspected case of tuberculosis and schizophrenia upon arrival of the patient and after the clinical examination and the way that patient look, it became clear that the patient was suffering from neglect and non-compliance with psychiatric medications, as he was uncooperative with the medical staff and dealt violently with them. The patient was transferred to the isolation room in the psychiatric department. From here begins the story of our hero, Wael Alshalawi.
The way he handled the patient he was not only a professional nurse, but he also acts as a son for the patient in terms of caring for his health condition, as well as personal attention to the patient’s appearance, such as changing the daily dress, trimming the nails, shaving and arranging the patient’s beard and hair, providing all his requests for food and different juices, as well as providing communication with his relatives especially that the patient family lives in far place. This made the patient improve first psychologically and medically, he became calmer and more responsive to the medical staff, as this reflected his health condition as well, due to his response to the medicines and medical procedures that he had originally refused since his admission. When the patient was discharged from the hospital after the improvement of his health and psychological condition, he thanked all the nurses, led by the nurse Wael Al-Shalawi, who had a big role in the improvement of his condition and his response to treatment.
