I am recognizing Latoya because of her selflessness, love, and passion for what she does every day for her patients. She gets to know them and really listens to what their needs are on a consistent basis. The below story is just one example of a kind gesture Latoya has done for her patients.

She took time out of her morning break time to be sure this patient got some fresh air showing her empathy and selflessness in this moment. Latoya had a young 23year old patient who has been in the hospital for 9 days without ever being able to go outside. The patient expressed to Latoya she really wanted to get outside and get some fresh air, so Latoya told the patient, “ok let’s go”. Latoya took the patient outside into the fresh air and beautiful sunshine day. The patient was so happy and excited, she was skipping in the hallway back to her room with excitement that she was able to go outside. Even though it was for only 5 minutes, those 5 minutes meant the world to this young lady and left her with a big happy smile and memory of a nurse who went out of her way to make a patient's day with the simplest gesture.
