Melissa was my nurse while I was in the hospital for a pelvic fracture. She is kind, compassionate, and very knowledgeable about her profession. While rounding she would check in on me and give me ideas on things to try at home to help speed my recovery. She even cared enough about me as a patient to realize that I wasn't a big TV watcher nor had any other activities to occupy my time. So to prevent my boredom, Melissa would come sit with me to discuss things that sparked my interest such as gardening and family.

In such a busy hospital with so many things to do and people to take care of, Melissa found time daily to come in and visit. I was always at ease when I knew Melissa was assigned to my care because I knew she would provide the best care and assistance to me during my stay and in the absence of my family. It was hard to realize that my role as care giver to my family, was now to be paused. I have never allowed others to really take care of me, but Melissa stressed to me the importance of me resting once I returned home and how it was ok to slow down and allow others to care for me, as I have always done for them.

Thanks to Melissa, the burdens of not being able to immediately jump back into the norm of caring for my family was lightened. It is amazing how just a few extra minutes of care from such a special nurse made everything so much better. She is truly the definition of a nurse that is remarkable!
