I’ve worked with Azucena for almost two years. Although I’m 26 years her senior, she has always impressed me with her intelligence, kindness, professionalism, and strong work ethic. Approximately six weeks ago, our charge nurse was injured and had to go on medical leave. We work in the Inpatient GI Lab, which is very specialized and is staffed by only 4 RNs. When our charge nurse, who normally handles all of the major and minor workings of our department was taken off duty to recover, Azucena took the reins with such confidence and humility. Not only has she continued working a 24/7 on-call schedule, often working up to 14 hours with very sick COVID and Non-COVID patients, but also took over all the Charge Nurse’s duties. This includes ordering specialty items for procedures, as well as required supplies to keep the lab running smoothly. She has also spent the time creating our staff schedule to everyone's needs and specifications. Azucena coordinates continually with our GI doctors to make sure that their schedules run efficiently. Azucena is truly an advocate for our patients and always ensures that they are comfortable and feel safe in our care. Thank you, Azucena!
