Sheri knew that we had a farm, and even brought her a "Cow Spotted" blanket for comfort.
I would like to recognize Ms. Sheri Orvis for the care she rendered to my mother-in-law during the last few days of her life. My mother-in-law was brought to the hospital acutely and we began a 5 day journey that ended in her death. Her illness and death were unexpected, although she was in her early 80s. We were not prepared for the decisions we would have to make or the outcome that was in our near future.

We received great care throughout the hospital, including the emergency room, CPSU, and hospice; however, Ms. Orvis rose to the top for me and my family for the care and compassion she exemplified while my mother-in-law was on her floor. Ms. Orvis had her for three nights, and she was the admission nurse as we moved from the ED to the inpatient bed. She had a smile, and a nurturing touch that put us at ease right away. She educated us on the decisions we needed to make regarding resuscitation plans and comfort care. She called us at night and provided updates and provided my mother-in-law with the utmost professional care. She knew that we had a farm, and even brought her a "Cow Spotted" blanket for comfort. My mother-in-law was not able to communicate, but I know she would have loved that blanket.

The Nursing Profession is founded on the principles established by Florence Nightingale in the 1800s, and I am confident if Ms. Nightingale was still here today, she would applaud Ms. Orvis for her efforts. Thank you for all you did!
