Sydney worked her shift and without question bought the patient a birthday cake for her husband so she could share one last birthday with him.
Describing one time that this nurse made a difference is almost impossible. Sydney goes above and beyond every day that she is here making a difference in her patients’ lives as well as all other caregivers on the unit. She shows a true passion for what bedside nursing on a medicine unit is.
The specific example that lead me to nominate Sydney for all of the amazing things she does was when she cared for a hospice patient who was admitted on our unit for a few days. She developed a special bond with this patient and got to know her very well. Prior to being discharged home the patient knowingly was unable to do any shopping. She said how she wished she could get her husband a birthday cake seeing as this was one of the last birthdays she would share with him. This nurse worked her shift and without question bought the patient a birthday cake for her husband so she could share one last birthday with him. This patient was in tears thinking she would be in the hospital and not able to get her husband a cake. She expressed multiple times how beyond grateful she was for the care this specific nurse provided for her. I am honored to work with Sydney and look forward to her guiding new nurses in their path to excellence. I look forward to the nurse she will become.
