Gloria identified the patient was at risk for complications because no plan was in place for the above recommendation and insisted the patient be admitted.
Gloria, a Primary Care Coordinator, was instrumental in getting a patient the care they needed urgently during the 2019 Christmas holiday when staffing was not optimal. This is a patient who had a devastating diagnosis and was sent home with no support for the new diagnosis. In fact, was advised to be NPO immediately and arrange for tube feeding. Gloria identified the patient was at risk for complications because no plan was in place for the above recommendation and insisted the patient be admitted. She ran into several barriers and did connect with the Specialty Care Coordinator in Neurological Institute. She worked with the specialist and PCP, and the patient's spouse to have him admitted to Main Campus. Gloria's quick patient advocacy and persistent determination likely saved the patient from harm by not letting them go home. She was a strong support to the patient's wife who at the time, felt hopeless with no idea what to do. The collaboration between Gloria and the Neurological Institute was vital to the patient's safety. She exemplified the culture and values we long for in each caregiver. Great job Gloria.
