Hannah blends the art and science of nursing perfectly into the care she provides. Just as the skills and “knowing” part of nursing is important, the compassion and “doing” part is equally important. Hannah is a highly-skilled, knowledgeable, and competent nurse who is valued on her unit as a resource, preceptor, and leader. She delivers exceptional care at the bedside independently and collaboratively with the healthcare team. But what makes Hannah really stand out is how she responds to patients’ needs, from within, with warmth, compassion, and an open heart.

She has not only devoted to her patients but clearly has a passion for nursing. Hannah creates a bond with the patient and family. She recognizes the importance of the human connection. They turn to her for information and support throughout the healing and recovery process. She provides a nurturing environment where her patients feel safe and cared for. The relationships she builds with patients and their families is very apparent during bedside handoff report. When Hannah assumes care of a patient she has cared for in the past, it is like reuniting family. The patient is greeted with Hannah's warm embrace. The family knows that the patient is in the best hands because of the trust that has been established and the bond that has been built. Hannah's personal and intimate relationship with the patient and family, along with the quality care she provides, ultimately leads to the enhanced patient experience we strive for at The Cleveland Clinic. She can help a patient laugh to make a difficult time a little easier and is always right beside the patient who needs to cry. Even in a critical situation, Hannah uses sound clinical judgment and thinking skills coupled with compassionate care. This is the essence of the art of nursing. 

Hannah is supportive to her colleagues as well and helps keep them engaged. She fosters an upbeat and positive environment on the unit with a team approach. Several years ago, with her contagious smile, sparkle in her eye, and spring in her step, she arrived on our unit for the very first time. Years later, she still has that same sparkle, energy, and drive. Nursing is truly her calling!

Hannah is involved in multiple committees and projects. She is a Shared Governance chair and has presented a poster at Shared Governance Day. She was a Solve Project member, leading her team to improve the unit’s responsiveness scores. Hannah was also chosen as an escort for the Magnet Appraisers and did a magnificent job representing Cleveland Clinic nurses. She recently attended the Magnet Conference and enthusiastically shared information and initiatives with her team upon her return.

Hannah keeps busy outside of work by attending school to become a nurse educator. Despite her busy schedule, she is always the first one to step up and volunteer. She takes it all in stride! Her compassion extends far beyond the bedside. Hannah participates in OROC, various fundraisers on the unit, and has volunteered at the City Mission. Hannah's passion, commitment, positivity, and ability to inspire others make her an amazing nurse and leader. She possesses the qualities and attributes of what defines a Cleveland Clinic nurse. Hannah has mastered the art of nursing and proven it is the heart of nursing, which is why she is a true DAISY Nurse.
