Lucia is a remarkable nurse. She comes to work every shift with a positive attitude. Today, the Emergency Department has a patient that was COVID positive and with low oxygen levels. Due to the census being high, the patient had to wait momentarily in the tent for a bed. The patient became upset and left to go home.

When Lucia became aware of what happened, she took it upon herself to contact the patient at home. Lucia pleaded with the patient to return to the Emergency Department and was successful. As the Emergency Department waited for the patient to return, Lucia ensured that a bed would be available for him. When the patient arrived Lucia took the time to walk the patient to the bed and help care for him as well, even though her assignment that was night was Mobile Intensive Care Nurse.

This generosity and advocacy made the patient feel safe and convinced to stay to receive the necessary and life-saving care he so much needed. This is one of the many examples of the type of person and Registered Nurse Lucia is. Lucia is the type of nurse who always strives to do what is right for patients and colleagues alike. She exemplifies leadership, kindness, and genuine compassion for the people we serve.
