Emily was not just my caregiver at the time, she was also my confidant and friend.
I feel Emily is an outstanding team member with strong compassion for her patients and her coworkers. I work in the Lab and I do the OneStaff and scheduling. I have had so many questions and issues off and on. I am the only one in the Lab who does this, so I have no one to ask. Emily has helped me out in so many ways with questions and things that were just not working. And she has always done it quickly and with a smile. We even flipped to Webscheduler for PTO requests and she jumped in and helped with the Lab employee training.
So a few weeks ago I came down with Covid. Unfortunately and unexpectantly I was admitted to the hospital. I was so grateful when I reached 3 Medical to see her and to get her as my nurse. She was my calm when I was facing uncertainty. She was not just my caregiver at the time, she was also my confidant and friend. Covid is no fun. I felt very isolated from my family and friends and having her there as someone I knew and was comfortable with was amazing. She talked to me as a person, not just a patient. She even took care of the little things for me.
When I left my house that morning it never crossed my mind I would end up getting admitted. I was just going to urgent care to get something to help my nauseousness. But I went from urgent care to ER to 3 Medical. So I had nothing with me - no computer, no clothes, no personal items. She made sure I was able to get someone to bring my stuff up and she went in search of it after it made it to the hospital. It was the little things like this that really made my experience better. No one realizes how important clean underwear is until you don’t have it!!
Fast forward a couple of weeks and I return to work. I found out then how much extra work she did for me to get the schedule out to the Lab employees and to keep OneSaff up to date. Again, extra work for her that she did not have to do but as a professional coworker, she did it. It helped so much when I returned to have that chunk of work done. She does go above and beyond and is a true DAISY Nurse.
