Rebekah quickly got ready for work and left her house early to buy this boy 2 shirts, a pack of socks, pants, and a jacket.
The pediatric unit received an admit overnight. The patient was a young boy who broke his arm. When he arrived to the unit, he had no shirt because EMS had cut it off of him in order to splint his arm. He also only had one sock, one pair of shoes, no jacket, and a pair of tattered, thin pants (the patient had attempted to fix the holes in his pants by tying the ends of the holes together). The family lived in the Silver Valley and had no means of supplying him with clothing prior to discharge the next day. The staff on the pediatric unit were concerned about sending a child home half-clothed in cold and rainy weather. I reached out to Rebekah who has boys about the same age. Without hesitation, Rebekah looked through her boys’ clothes in order to find some clothing to bring in. She had no luck finding the right clothing for this patient. Rebekah quickly got ready for work and left her house early to buy this boy 2 shirts, a pack of socks, pants, and a jacket. Selflessly, she gave the boy the new clothes without mentioning her journey to get them. Rebekah went above and beyond to make sure this young boy was not only clothed but also not embarrassed or freezing cold when he left the hospital the next morning. She is the kind of nurse that will go the extra mile for her patients without expecting any admiration, appreciation, or reward in return.
