I know it’s not always easy to have demanding family members at the bedside, but Judy handled it with such grace.
My 61-year-old otherwise healthy husband was admitted for a total hip. As an RN wife, it is really hard to trust your loved ones to anyone besides myself. I know I had very high expectations and was watching their every move. Judy Chan was an amazing nurse. ECH should be proud to have her on the staff.
Judy was thorough in performing her assessments each day. She explained all the medications and side effects my husband should look out for. She was always kind, always professional. Judy never acted like she was rushed or busy when she was at my husband’s bedside. Because I am an RN, I knew this was a special gift because all of us nurses are very busy. She made my husband feel as if he was the only patient she was caring for.
When my husband first came from PACU he became very orthostatic and passed out twice. They called a rapid response which was so nerve-racking for me! Because of the rapid, I was determined to not leave his side. This meant that Judy now had two patients. I know it’s not always easy to have demanding family members at the bedside, but Judy handled it with such grace. She took the time to explain the plan of care and answered all of my detailed questions. I don’t know if you’ve heard it said; “You might forget what someone says, but you never forget how people make you feel.” Judy made me feel important and special. She brought me water because she saw I was thirsty. She cared for us both! I am very grateful to her!
