Grace is absolutely selfless and everything that she does is to make the patient better or for a better environment for the staff and her team.
I looked up the award on the DAISY website and realized that Grace’s picture should be there as part of the definition. Some of the examples on the website of people who should be considered for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award are people who:
• Role model for compassion and exemplary practice
• Role models behavior perceived as extraordinary
• Creates an environment that fosters care compassion • Creates an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development, and ethical behavior are modeled and supported
• Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients
• Is a mentor to staff
• Accessible, available, and responsive to the needs of others, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving for individuals and with the context of teams
• Promotes and enhances the image of nursing within the organization, the community, and the profession
During her time as an ANM, I have seen Grace embody all of these characteristics, even going above and beyond in these areas. Grace is constantly in the unit and in patient rooms, helping staff and coaching staff, speaking with patients and families, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Grace is absolutely selfless and everything that she does is to make the patient better or for a better environment for the staff and her team. She is always advocating and planning ahead to meet the complex needs of the unit, increased volume and acuity, and always finds the "yes". Grace has also taken on coaching duties for the 9E/L CSI Academy project and working with the core team of staff RNs and providing mentoring and guidance for their quality improvement project that, to date, has resulted in an 80% improvement in quality metrics on the unit. Grace is an incredible asset to this organization and the 9E/L team and her efforts each day certainly do not go unnoticed.
