Her compassion, positive attitude, willingness to listen and learn in a new position truly impresses me about Sue. The one thing that really stood out was a day that she called me on my day off, one day after an extremely difficult deliver. She called to say “thank you, you did an excellent job yesterday.” This was truly the first time I remember anyone telling me this in years. As physicians we surely don’t do our jobs for a pat on the back, but now, months later, I still am a bit shocked when I think about it. That someone, a nurse, thanked me and recognized my work that day. Especially during COVID, the positive impact she made on me, my outlook on life, and people in general cannot be underestimated. She is a true gem!
