When a patient being treated for Wernicke’s needed thiamine that was unavailable on a weekend this nurse went out of their way to get what was needed. Elizabeth is a team player. She exemplifies many of Carilion Core values: Collaboration, Compassion, Commitment, and Courage. On the nurse’s birthday, during her lunch break and despite this not being her patient, Elizabeth volunteered to buy thiamine and bring it back for the patient. The nurse quite possibly saved the patient from going further into encephalopathy, a coma, or having seizures. Her courage to do what was right, her commitment to the patient, her compassion for what the patient was going through, and her collaboration with the team are impressive! It is a joy and privilege to have Elizabeth work with us. She is an invaluable member of the team and demonstrated outstanding core values.
