Kim showed so much compassion and empathy towards my situation.
I first met Kim when I delivered my first son, in May of 2016 at SF Kaiser. She instantly made me feel comfortable and cared for, frequently asking me and my husband if there was anything we needed. During my first delivery, I had experienced a hemorrhage and nearly fainted post-delivery, requiring the need for blood transfusion. Kim assisted me during this post-delivery care including hygiene and symptom/medication management. Quite a traumatic experience for me, Kim showed so much compassion and empathy towards my situation. Though I know she has assisted with many deliveries in her career, I felt that she was 100% present, helping me as if I was her very first patient.
Fast forward four years later, my husband and I were ecstatic to reunite with Kim again when delivering our 3rd son. She made such an impression on us the first time we met her because of her passion, patience, and knowledge she displayed. We were grateful to have her as our nurse again and just as before, she provided us with such exceptional care. I delivered C towards the end of her shift. She guided me through my delivery and even stayed past her shift to make sure the transfer of care was smooth. After my delivery, my husband went home to care for our other children. He wasn't able to return until the following day due to the new Covid safety policies. Knowing that my husband was going to be absent during this time, she took the time to come by my room after her shift and even at the beginning of her next shift to make sure C and I were comfortable. Kim's passion for her work is evident through her relationships with her patients and her willingness to go above and beyond her duties.
The fact that we remembered her from our first delivery is telling of the positive impact she made on our experience at Kaiser. Not only is she compassionate, but she is also very knowledgeable and articulate in the way she explained our care to us. Kim didn't make me feel like just another patient, she made me feel as if I was part of her family.
