During the Covid pandemic, Suzanne's transformational leadership skills were exemplified as she led the efforts to ensure that pediatric nurses had the necessary competencies and education to care for adult patients.
Suzanne Monteleone has been the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development at Cohen's for over ten years and is currently the Senior Administrative Director. She had been with the Northwell organization for 20 years. Her leadership has guided the Nursing Professional team through many stages of their own growth and development. Under her leadership, certification rates exceeded and sustained record rates, with nurse leaders at 86% and staff at 62% for 2021 thus far. Clinical ladder participation increased by 8.6% in 2021, with 24% of eligible nurses on the clinical ladder. Suzanne has implemented the highest level of evidence-based practices through multiple EBP initiatives to help improve the care provided to our patients and families.
During the Covid pandemic, Suzanne's transformational leadership skills were exemplified as she led the efforts to ensure that pediatric nurses had the necessary competencies and education to care for adult patients. She coordinated the education and training of hundreds of nurses to help meet the demand during the height of the Covid pandemic. She tirelessly rounded on the pediatric nurses deployed to LIJ to ensure they had all the necessary tools and to lend her support as they cared for adult covid patients.
Additionally, she assisted in educating school nurses on proper Covid precautions reaching thousands of nurses nationally and internationally. After the peak of Covid, Suzanne did not stop. In 2021, she led the way in orienting 88 new nurses to Cohen's to alleviate nursing vacancies. Suzanne's innovative and creative thinking has helped find solutions during many challenging times. She continues to lead by example and empowers her clinical professional development staff to expand their own skills through national and local podium and poster presentations. She is a true leader who exemplifies the core values of a transformational leader and the genuine compassion of a nurse. Suzanne values and supports her team both personally and professionally. We are so fortunate to have Suzanne in this building each day to guide, support, and lead us in efforts to ensure the highest quality of care is received by every patient and family we serve.
