It meant so much for our nurse to care that much about saving my husband.
We called Michelle our praying nurse. She was so wonderful at explaining procedures and helped me work through some tough decisions I had to make. Michelle prayed for my husband each night with her kids when they said their nighttime prayers. That is so incredible that anyone would care that much for their patients.
I asked Michelle why she became a nurse. She told me what a great nurse she had during the delivery of one of her children. Michelle said her nurse helped make the experience so much easier and so wonderful and she thought to herself “I can do that for others too.” And she did do just that for me and my family. She was right that she could do that and I know she continues to do that daily for other patients.
One of the times my husband took a downturn Michelle could not rest until she thought of something that might help him lower his CO2. She thought of something and asked the doctor if they could try it. The doctor agreed and it did help my husband. It meant so much for our nurse to care that much about saving my husband. When Michelle was explaining a medical issue to me she would sometimes draw a picture of the lungs on the dry erase board in the room to help me understand what was going on with my husband. I told her I was a visual learner so she gave me a visual to help me understand how the lungs work. Michelle also came down to the MICU unit after my husband was moved there to check on us and continued to follow up with us. Our CVICU Nurses kept caring for my husband/us even though he was in another unit. I just cannot say enough about how wonderful our nurse Michelle is.
