What we witnessed that day from TJ was not the kind of care you give because it is someone you know, but was the kind of care that showed that he is really invested in what he does.
I work in the same department as TJ, and even though I am considered a part of the ER team, I rarely get to see our clinical staff in their day-to-day jobs of caring for the sick and critically ill patients that come through our doors. TJ is one of the nurses I really do not know because he is one of the staff who works the night shift. Before this incident, I had heard others speak of the quality of care he give patients, his leadership, and his passion for what he does. He seems to be highly respected amongst his peers. Well, after watching him care for my friend for several long hours with so much compassion, professionalism, patience, and skill, it made such an impact on me and her family. It gave us a real dose of and a reality check of what the ER staff deals with in a close and personal way.
Her family and I watched him and knew the pressure he must have been under. Step-by-step through the care he gave, he was so kind, gentle, and patient to answer any question we had about her care and status, all while dealing with many emotional loved ones as this was a sudden and tragic event as she was working the day this occurred. TJ handled us all with the grace of an angel and was there to meet her needs and ours. Through our questions and his answers, you could see he loves what he does. Unfortunately, my friend passed away in the wee hours of the morning as TJ cared for her with the utmost dignity and respect for her and us. Her family and I wanted to make sure he was acknowledged and recognized in some way. We have just now been able to gather our thoughts to write this and say how thankful we are that we had TJ Henderson as our nurse that fateful day. He made a lasting impression on us. He is amazing, and any patient that comes through our doors would be blessed to have him as their nurse.
