Razia Damawand exhibits all of the incredibly compassionate, caring, and loving qualities a DAISY recipient should possess. My mother had a thymectomy and the care that she received from Razia was beyond words. Razia’s very aura brought such an amazing feeling of peace to my mother. Every time she entered the bay an overwhelming sense of calmness was present. She consistently had her hand on my mom no matter what she was doing in the bay. Her touch delivered such a feeling of love to both me and my mother.

My mom told Razia that her arm was itching at the IV site. Razia said it was probably the tape and would change it out to fresh new tape. While removing the tape she noticed how incredibly dry my mother’s skin was from not being able to apply any lotion the day of surgery. My poor mother was so embarrassed as to how her skin was flaking all over her body as she is on Lasix which dries out her skin. Razia offered to put lotion on her arm and then offered to put the lotion on her entire body. Razia shared with us how amazing the lotion was and that it would surely help my mother. She was right, the lotion was extremely hydrating but the truly wonderful part was the way in which Razia rubbed the lotion on my mom. She did not apply the lotion to my mom’s body. With each loving and caring motion of rubbing the lotion into my mother’s body, she was offering my mother love and healing. I was in awe just watching her as she put the lotion on my mom. It was such a beautiful moment.

Razia was there for my mom emotionally and spiritually. She told my mom several times over and over again that she was there for her and was there to care for her and make her feel better. Razia certainly met my mother’s clinical needs but she offered so much more than that. In the 12 hours that she cared for my mother, she provided so much love to someone she had just met. At midnight it was finally time for my brother and me to go home and rest. Because of Razia, we were able to go home and know that we were leaving our incredible mother whom we love so very much in the care of someone who would be by her side through the night. Someone who would love her in our absence and give her the comfort that she so badly needed all night long. My brother and I will forever hold Razia in our hearts for loving and caring for our mom. My mother will never forget Razia for her healing and loving touch and the overwhelming feeling of peace that she brings with her. We appreciated her so very dearly and truly believe that she should receive the DAISY Award. Every patient deserves to be cared for by Razia.
