Caitlyn is a leader who will go above and beyond for the patients and staff she works with. Most recently, Caitlyn received a call from a patient’s wife who was having difficulty with her husband’s BiPap machine. The husband had been discharged from the hospital that day and needed the BiPap at night. Caitlyn tried to talk the wife through the connections and operation of the machine, but the wife was having difficulty. Caitlyn decided to go to the patient’s home on her break and troubleshoot the issues. In the end, the BiPap machine did not work, so Caitlyn followed up with the home health agency and assured that the patient was seen the next day with new equipment. The wife told Caitlyn she wanted to nominate her for the DAISY Award!

Caitlyn is very good at assuring any follow-up with patients is completed timely…this is not always an easy task when working the night shift. Caitlyn takes accountability for making sure there are no loose ends in patient care. Caitlyn has experience in many areas of nursing. She is flexible and adaptable; that very same night, Caitlyn delivered a baby in the OB department when the doctor did not arrive quite fast enough. Caitlyn’s leadership and experience are a huge asset on the nursing team when anything can happen and the situation requires a cool head and quick thinking.

One of her coworkers said of her, “You were so calm…I couldn’t even tell you were about to deliver that baby!” During another incident, Caitlyn responded to the medical/surgical unit in response to a patient who was in shock. Caitlyn led the staff in caring for the patient, provided comfort to the family and transferred the patient for critical care. After the incident, Caitlyn worked with the staff by providing education and mock drills to help the staff respond efficiently in their care of shock patients. She is dedicated to excellence in patient care and educating her coworkers to obtain that goal. These examples are only a snapshot of the many times Caitlyn has displayed compassionate care for her patients and gone above and beyond in their care. Caitlyn is a nursing leader who will stop at nothing to do what is right for her patients. Her care goes beyond the hospital walls and she also volunteers on a Rescue Squad. She is all around a service oriented, kind, and caring nurse.
