Lina was not only an academic advisor for me while I was in my MSN program, but also a professor in many of my courses throughout my program. She was very helpful and committed to me as a student. Even after graduation with my master’s degree, she supported me when I reached out and wanted to talk through the career path of leadership and help me prepare for a leadership position interview. I had an opportunity to grow in leadership on my unit, and Lina was right there encouraging me all the way.

I have worked with Lina in various positions over the past 25 years. She has always been that kind of nurse who I have aspired to be. She was my manager in the ICU years ago, and later my Professor and Advisor at the college. I was in school and I did not feel as though I could continue with classes with all that was happening. Lina called me. She said she would support whatever decision I made. Those encouraging words and the confidence she had in me – inspired me to stay in school, for me, for my girls and our future. It is because of her belief in me that I am where I am today, with my MSN in Leadership.

Students in the MSN program are at a crossroads in their careers and personal lives. Lina takes the time to clearly understand each student’s current situation, perspective, and where the student seeks to be in the future. Lina actively listens and provides advice to help the student position themselves for the next chapter of their career: she empowers them to use what they know to succeed. This mentorship does not end upon graduation. What is unique about Lina is that she infuses the knowledge and strengths she gains from her experiences into her work. She never brags about her accomplishments, just calmly and professionally shares insights that will help the person who has sought her out.

Dr. Bostwick is easy to relate to and seems to have a way of mentoring that just comes naturally to her. She notified me of a volunteer position that was opening up in ANA and encouraged me to apply for it. She went above and beyond expectations when it came to explaining information on the Covid-19 vaccine for me as well. I believe that she ultimately wants to see me succeed in the MSN program as well as future career.
