Dot, don’t stop smiling and keep shining your light.
Dot always goes above and beyond for our patients. She makes what seems impossible, possible. I have worked with her for a few years now and the effort she puts in to help others is immeasurable. She works hard to update patients and teams on the plan of care. I have seen her buying rolling walkers and giving them to patients that cannot afford them. I have seen her bring clothes in for patients that had none and no family support.

One specific example most recently was when Dot went to one of our physiatrists and advocated for the patient that needed acute rehab. The patient was not initially accepted to rehab, but because Dot took the time and went to advocate that it is the right thing for the patient and he needs the intense therapy of 3 hours per day. Because of this the patient was accepted to WSRH rehab and is now getting the therapy he needs to get his hips/legs stronger and eventually get a job and his life back.

Dot also found placement and advocated for patients that had nowhere to go and were in other facilities/unites for months prior to them being transferred to our unit. There are so many examples and so many other lives Dot touched.

One thing I will say in conclusion: Dot, don’t stop smiling and keep shining your light. It does not go un-noticed and you make a difference not only in your patients' lives but in the nurses’ lives that you work with always. I look up to you as a nurse and strive to be at least a quarter of a nurse that you are.
