My 21-year-old son was in the ICU recently after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. While he was there Leah was our nurse. Not only did she give my son the physical care he required, but she also gave him with mental and emotional care that he needed. She talked to him and explained things to him in a way that he could understand and relate to. She was patient and understanding of what he was going through. In addition, she was a great support to me, as his mother with helping me understand his care and what he will be going through, given his cardiac arrest. She even made a point to help make it possible for my son to see his sister, grandfather, and stepfather by arranging a special outside visit and understanding that "it was more for them than it was for him (my son)". Her understanding, support, and compassion beyond her required care helped us get through such a scary and unfathomable situation.
