When I was admitted, I met nurse Millie, who was responsible for my care. The first few hours with her started my recovery before even seeing a doctor. Her professionalism, her compassion, her caring, her personality speaks beyond many nurses of today. As my stay continues, I saw more unique assets of my nurse. As a retired nurse, I know what is expected of a nurse and her responsibilities. Nurse Millie goes beyond the call of duty. How many nurses today working on a CPCU unit with 5 patients stop to put my pants on, then sit me in a chair, put my feet in her lap, and put on my socks. She did not only put them on but continued to make them look pretty by folding over the tab. She addresses me in a manner that tells me she is caring for a person with health problems, issues, illnesses, and not just a number. This is whom I think Florence Nightingale was. When you have a nurse like this, they need to be recognized. P.S. Nurse Millie did not know and still does not know she was caring for another nurse.
