Shaunna met a patient as a home hospice patient and during the admission visit learned that what mattered most to this patient was having the chance to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife. The patient had an unfortunate turn of events and was quickly admitted to the Hospice In-Patient Unit. Upon learning the news of the patient's rapid decline, Shaunna quickly communicated with her colleagues and coordinated with the IPU staff an anniversary party. Shaunna took the time from her day and without hesitation, purchased on her own a dozen roses, party balloons, decorations, and a cake. The celebration meant so much to the patient, his wife, and children, there wasn't a dry eye in the house, including from the staff! The patient passed away just a few days later. Shaunna exemplifies extraordinary compassion and care and went above and beyond the call of duty to help the patient achieve his dying wish.
