Not only is Debi highly skilled, but compassionate and extremely professional.
I have known Debi for 20 of her 26 years as a registered nurse. I have been a physician for 30 years and have been in Debi's company both on a professional as well as personal level numerous times over those years and, in my opinion, she is one of the finest and most skilled I have ever worked alongside. Not only is Debi highly skilled, but compassionate and extremely professional.
She stands alone in the work she does here at Phelps. As the wound ostomy and continence nurse, Debi's job description ranges from simple clean post-op dressing changes to complex fecal impaction challenges. There is no other nurse in my 30 years here at Phelps that accepts these types of challenges on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Whether working side by side with one of the many physicians she helps, organizing the Pressure Ulcer Relief team, or patiently working with residents and nursing students her kind and professional manner never waivers. Her professional character is above reproach.
Debi needs to be recognized sooner rather than later for the job she does. I have personally worked alongside Debi and seen her tackle the most complex wounds and ostomy cases with ease and without ever wavering in her love for what she does. She will tackle multiple wounds whether they be complex sacral wounds and flaps under the auspices of Plastic Surgery, complex diabetic foot wounds under the Podiatry service, or life-threatening necrotizing fasciitis under multiple subspecialties as Infectious Disease, Orthopedics, Podiatry, and Plastic Surgery. She performs these services while honoring patient privacy and showing compassion and respect for the patient. There aren't many nurses who begin their day with a fecal impaction or clogged ostomy patient at 8 or 9 am and move forward all the time with a smile on their face.
In addition to her unique job description for our in-house wound and ostomy patients, I have worked side by side with Debi performing these services during our current pandemic and health care crises, and her commitment and drive are ·unwavering. She is what the true definition of a registered nurse is. A true hero among healthcare heroes. It's time to recognize Debi Reynolds as a DAISY Nurse because too often her work goes unrecognized.
