Abby's calming and warm presence made me immediately feel at ease.
My husband and I found out we were pregnant in June of 2021 with our first baby. At our 10 week ultrasound, they could not find a heartbeat. We were told to come back in ten days to see if anything changes. Those ten days of not knowing what was going to happen were heart-wrenching. We were hopeful but knew the chance of a miscarriage was possible. When we went back to the OBGYN, the baby did not grow anymore, and no heartbeat was detected. We were absolutely devastated, and heartbroken. We then scheduled a D&C for two days later. We told our family members and close friends, but no one knew what to say or how to handle the situation. My husband and I really leaned on each other but felt a huge hole in our hearts leading up to the surgery. When we got to the hospital, we were greeted by many sweet Nurses, our Doctor, and Anesthesiologist.
Nurse Abby in particular could not have been more empathetic and compassionate during our stay. Her calming and warm presence made me immediately feel at ease. She assured us that everyone, especially her, was going to take care of me. Anyone can say those words, but she made me feel like I was her top priority that morning. She reassured us that miscarriages are more common than you think and there was nothing we could have done to prevent the miscarriage. She made sure my husband and I got a hug and kiss in before I went back to surgery. She said multiple times and with such sincerity, “I hope to see you back under better circumstances”. That meant the world to me. At a place where something so sad happened, she made my husband and I feel so comfortable with the possibility of returning. A true sense of peace we weren't expecting to feel that day. She made us feel cared for and hopeful for the future. Anything I needed never felt like an inconvenience to her. Making sure everything went smoothly, I was feeling ok, and that our bellies were feed.
Everyone expects an educated, ethical nurse. But when your nurse also shows compassion and empathy for you, that is next level and what sets an experience apart. Abby’s nurturing and gracious personality did not go unnoticed. She made our experience a positive one and for that, we are forever grateful and feel as though she is a true DAISY Nurse.
