Celia has definitely made and continues to make an impact by educating healthcare providers and the community at large when it comes to the subject of human trafficking.
Dr. Celia McIntosh is a mover and a shaker when it comes to health care, social (in)justices, and community advocacy. In addition to her position as a Nurse Practitioner at RRHS, she is President of Rochester Regional Coalition Against Human Trafficking Vice-President Rochester Black Nurses Association Genesee Valley Nurses Association (GVNA) Legislative Committee Chairperson. I would like to address the work she has done to bring visibility to the issue of human trafficking to the Rochester/Monroe County Area and beyond. She was one of our speakers at an annual nursing conference in 2018 where public health crises were addressed. Topics covered by other speakers included the opioid crisis and gun violence. There was SRO at this offering with over 400 nurses in attendance. The topic of human trafficking was deemed to be so important that she was invited to be the keynote speaker at GVNA's 2019 Annual Legislative Reception. There was SRO at this offering with over 200 nurses and legislators in attendance. Many people think that human trafficking only happens in other places and not in our backyard, but Celia is able to bring this important issue to the forefront. She has definitely made and continues to make an impact by educating healthcare providers and the community at large when it comes to the subject of human trafficking. I was President of Genesee Valley Nurses Association from 2017-2019 and helped plan for the above offerings in 2018 and 2019. I have been GVNA Legislative Chairperson and now Celia is Chairperson. With her leadership, I continue to learn so much from her about health disparities and social justice issues. She is very deserving of this Health Equity Award!
