Cootie brought him a Buzz Lightyear pillow to snuggle with. She knew it was something he would enjoy and make things that much better.
In early October, one of our EMS colleagues' son was admitted to the Medical Center with COVID. This particular patient was in his early 30s, developmentally delayed and incredibly scared. Due to his diagnosis and other complicated medical history, the patient required quick interventions and was cared for in our MICU setting. Unfortunately, due to a COVID + diagnosis and his family being COVID + as well, he was unable to have any visitors. During his extended stay in the MICU, there were several individuals who made an impact on his care from the interdisciplinary team, but two nurses in particular really stood out and had an impact on him and the family. One nurse, came in on her day off, after having cared for him days prior, and brought him a Toy Story Buzz Lightyear Toy to help entertain him and pass the time. She knew that this was his favorite character and something he would enjoy.
Another nurse, Cootie, when assigned to care for him, after having cared for him the night prior, brought him a Buzz Lightyear pillow to snuggle with. She knew it was something he would enjoy and make things that much better. These two are DAISY Nurses because going above and beyond is not taught in nursing school and they are doing this out of the goodness of their heart.
