Leslie has done a terrific job of working with our family who is self-pay. She has done a lot of behind the scene work to help us check prices and options, to give us the best discounts available. She worked with us on using our home meds, instead of the hospital pharmacy. She called the “my labs” program in our home area and got all the info worked out to get labs at a discount. She got the lab in our home area to get results quickly, which they normally don’t do. She also discovered that they are able to do all the labs that are requested for our son under the cheaper “my labs” program. Some of the lab tests run under different names but Leslie figured out which tests that NM wanted corresponded to the test run by “my labs”. She also discovered that the GCSF medication our son needs is very expensive ($3,000 per round) but the company offers a rebate. She filled out paperwork, made phone calls, and got it for $7! Leslie also did our chemo instruction and was very thorough. She stressed that if our son has a fever of 100.4 we must take him to the hospital immediately. She taught us many things about keeping him free of infection, including cooking meals well, no buffets when his ANC is low, wearing masks, etc. She helped us make a shopping list for home. Meds to buy at Sam’s Club after he was on chemo including Miralax, colace, and rubber gloves. Also, Leslie remembered how much J enjoyed watching airplanes from his windows so she put a word in for the nurses to choose a room on the airport side of the floor. THANK YOU LESLIE FOR YOUR EXCELLENT WORK!
